But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come...
Just as I am, of that free love
The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
O Lamb of God, I come!
-Charlotte Elliott (1789-1871)
I came across this hymn in my reading this morning and it expressed what I so often feel and see in others. I know so many people who don't come to Christ or who don't grasp the full relationship with Christ they could have because they don't feel they are worthy enough. I am so grateful that we don't have to be perfect before we come to Christ. He takes us just the way we are and loves us like a brother or sister. He wants to share His kingdom with us. Isn't that amazing! Even though we don't deserve it, He died for us so we can share eternity with Him.
